Dr. James Gomez is the Regional Director of Asia Centre, a civil society research institute with Special Consultative Status with UN ECOSOC. Dr Gomez is a highly qualified communications expert with over 30 years of international experience working for international NGOs, intergovernmental organizations, public and private universities, research institutes and think tanks. At Asia Centre, he is leading efforts to get the Centre AI ready and step up its projects and engagements on AI. Initiatives Dr Gomez is advising include the Google-supported digital transformation project to incorporate AI tools into the Centre’s work; policy research to be used by political parties to track and positively influence AI legislation; and planning Asia Centre’s 2025 conference on AI’s impact on civil society, governance, media and political participation (20-22 August 2025).
